Projects and Initiatives - Educational Learning Modules

CIP, along with its Affiliates, have launched a Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) program that provides educational opportunities to help Canadian planners remain current in their practice.

Under its collaboration with Natural Resources Canada, CIP is developing three educational learning modules on climate change:

  • a packaged 2- to 3-hour overview seminar, based on CIP's new national Policy on Climate Change, available for delivery at Affiliate, CIP and other conferences or events
  • a two-day intensive workshop for planners and related professionals on climate change adaptation, available for Affiliate CPL programs
  • a university level module of 3 to 5 sessions to be included in the core curriculum of existing planning courses.

The 2-hour module has been prepared and pilot tested at CIP's conference and several Affiliate conferences during 2009.

The more intensive 2-day module is also being finalized. Revisions are being made to the presentation and workbook and, in March 2010, CIP is preparing to hold a session in Ottawa to prepare trainers who will then be available to deliver this CPL offering in each Affiliate. The 2-day module will be presented at the 2010 CIP Conference in Montréal.

Work also continues on the university learning module (lecture series), in close cooperation with the Association of Canadian University Planning Programs, to be included in first-year planning courses.
